Passage: Philippians 1:27-2:16

Fast-changing values and ideas in the culture around us can be scary. Historic good convictions can become twisted and distorted. The apostle Paul is honest with his Christian friends living in Philippi when he told them they lived among a “warped generation.” But his concern was not so much the cultural problems outside the church, but the quality of life inside the community. “Only,” he says, “let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ.”

The result is such good-news worthy lives is remarkable : you shine like lights in the world (Philippians 2:15). That is encouraging. Light doesn’t act intimidated by darkness and even small flickers can change a dark room. God isn’t asking us for wearisome activism, but simple lives marked by his good news that will be like light. I’m excited to be back in town from Europe where I serve at the Bible School of Geneva. Join us this Sunday as we look at how Paul explains how the good news does change community life together, whether among the students in Geneva or church community here in Lake County.
