Passage: Genesis 1:26-2:3

Christianity, let alone the West, is in a metaphysical crisis.  By this I mean that we neither know what kind of world we live in nor what story we are  inhabiting.  In the days of C.S. Lewis, we refused to let nature make us, and now we intend to remake nature.  Humans must live in a story; the question is whether it will be the true story of the world or the story we write for ourselves.  In this short series we want to explore what kind of a world we truly live in, and how we live in it.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Acts 17:23b-31

CONFESSION (Responsive reading based on Psalm 19)

Leader: The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the sky above[a] proclaims his handiwork.

Congregation: Day to day pours out speech,

     and night to night reveals knowledge.

Leader: There is no speech, nor are there words,

     whose voice is not heard.

Congregation: Their voice goes out through all the earth,

    and their words to the end of the world.

In them he has set a tent for the sun,

    which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,

    and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.

Its rising is from the end of the heavens,

    and its circuit to the end of them,

    and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Leader: The law of the Lord is perfect,

Congregation: reviving the soul;

Leader: the testimony of the Lord is sure,

Congregation: making wise the simple;

Leader: the precepts of the Lord are right,

Congregation: rejoicing the heart;

Leader: the commandment of the Lord is pure,

Congregation: enlightening the eyes;

Leader: the fear of the Lord is clean,

Congregation: enduring forever;

Leader: the rules of the Lord are true,

Congregation: and righteous altogether.

Leader: More to be desired are they than gold,

    even much fine gold;

sweeter also than honey

    and drippings of the honeycomb.

Congregation: Moreover, by them is your servant warned;

    in keeping them there is great reward.

Leader: Who can discern his errors?

    Declare me innocent from hidden faults.

Congregation: Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;

    let them not have dominion over me!

Then I shall be blameless,

    and innocent of great transgression.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

     be acceptable in your sight,

     O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

All Creatures of Our God & King

Traditional Hymn w/ Verses by Sovereign Grace Music

All creatures of Our God and King,

Lift up your voice and with us sing

O Praise Him! Alleluia!

Thou, burning sun with golden beam

Thou, silver moon with softer gleam

O Praise Him! O Praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Allelia

Let all things their Creator bless

And worship Him with humbleness

O Praise! Alleluia!

Praise, praise the Father, praise The Son

And praise the Spirit, Three in One!

O Praise Him! O Praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia Alleluia

All the redeemed washed by His blood

Come and Rejoice in His great love;

O Praise Him! Alleluia

Christ has defeated every sin;

Cast all your burdens now on Him

O Praise Him! O Praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia

He shall return in power to reign;

Heaven and earth will join to say

O Praise Him! Alleluia!

Then who shall fall On bended knee?

All creatures of our God and King;

O Praise Him! O Praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia!

O Praise Him! O Praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia Alleluia!

God Is For Us

By CityAlight

We won't fear the battle, we won't fear the night

We will walk the valley with You by our side

You will go before us, You will lead the way

We have found a refuge, only You can save

Sing with joy now: our God is for us

The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress

Raise your voice now, no love is greater

Who can stand against us if our God is for us

Even when I stumble, even when I fall

Even when I turn back, still Your love is sure

You will not abandon, You will not forsake

You will cheer me onward with never-ending grace

Neither height nor depth can separate us

Hell and death will not defeat us

He who gave His son to free us

Holds me in His love

SERMON

Abide With Me / Hallelujah What a Savior

Traditional Hymns

Verse 1

Abide with me fast falls the eventide

The darkness deepens Lord with me abide

When other helpers fail and comforts flee

Help of the helpless abide with me

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile

And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile

Thou hast not left me though I oft left Thee

On to the close Lord abide with me

I need Thy presence every passing hour

What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power

Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be

Through cloud and sunshine abide with me

I fear no foe with Thee at hand to bless

Ills have no weight tears lose their bitterness

Where is thy sting death

Where grave thy victory

I triumph still abide with me

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes

Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies

Thy morning breaks and earthly shadows flee

In life in death Lord abide with me

In life in death Lord abide with me

In life in death Lord abide with me

COMMUNION

Man of Sorrows, what a name

for the Son of God who came

Ruined sinners to reclaim,

Hallelujah what a Savior

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,

in my place condemned He stood

He sealed my pardon with His blood,

Hallelujah what a Savior

Guilty, vile and helpless me,

spotless Lamb of God was He

Full atonement can it be,

Hallelujah what a Savior

Lifted up was He to die,

It is finished was His cry

Now in heaven exalted high,

Hallelujah what a Savior

When He comes, our Glorious King

all His ransomed home to bring

Then anew this song well sing,

Hallelujah what a Savior

Great Is Our God

By Young Oceans

Come let us praise Him

Let us kneel at the throne of our God

Through His Son our salvation was bought

With mercy and grace.

Come let us bow down

In His hands are the depths of the earth

With one voice we proclaim His great worth

Lord our God

And we will seek Him our Rock of Salvation

Morning by morning with Thanksgiving we come

And we will bow down with creation we cry out

In daylight and darkness we sing to the Lord

Great is our God

Great is our God

Great is our God.

Lord of all nations

We will stand at the end of our days

In your courts and declare your great ways

In Spirit and Truth

We long for your kingdom

Bring your thunder and gather the earth

All who tremble will tell of Your worth

Lord our God

In Christ Alone

By Keith & Kristyn Getty

In Christ alone my hope is found,

He is my light, my strength, my song;

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace,

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!

My Comforter, my All in All,

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! Who took on flesh

Fulness of God in helpless babe!

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones he came to save:

Till on that cross as Jesus died,

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid;

Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain:

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave he rose again!

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me;

From life's first cry to final breath.

Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand;

Till He returns or calls me home,

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

Doxology
