Series: The Son of God, Our Lord
Ought to be Begot
December 05, 2021 | Cooper Bryan
Passage: Colossians 1:15-20
During advent, we celebrate the fact of the incarnation. Jesus, fully God and fully man, was coming into the world! God in flesh; God with us. But why was the incarnation necessary in the first place? What is the relationship between the necessity of the incarnation and the nature of the incarnation? Building from Paul's Christ Hymn in Colossians 1:15-20 and taking our interpretive cues from the early church Father Athanasius, we explore why the incarnation fills us with wonder and drives us to worship.

O Come O Come Emmanuel
Trinity Community Worship Team w/ Added Lyrics by Sovereign Grace
O come, O come, Emmanuel and ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear
Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel
O come, Thou, Dayspring from on high and cause Thy light on us to rise
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night and death’s dark shadow put to flight
Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel
O come, O come, true prophet of the Lord and turn the key to heaven’s door
Be Thou our comforter and guide and lead us to the Father’s side
Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel shall by His word, our darkness dispel
O come, our great High Priest, and intercede, Thy sacrifice, our only plea
The judgment we no longer fear, Thy precious blood has brought us near
Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel has banished every fear of hell
O Come, Thou King of nations bring an end to all our suffering
Bid every pain and sorrow cease and reign now as our Prince of Peace
Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel shall come again with us to dwell
Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel shall come again with us to dwell
Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee
Traditional Hymn w/ Chorus from Rend Collective
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, Opening to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness Fill us with the light of day
Rejoice, rejoice, our God is here with us
Emmanuel, our God is still with us
All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays
Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise
Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music leads us sunward In the triumph song of life

Come And Stand Amazed
Citizens & Saints
Come and stand amazed, you people, see how God is reconciled
See His plans of love accomplished; see His gift, this newborn child
See the Mighty weak and tender see the Word who now is mute
See the Sovereign without splendor; see the Fullness destitute.
See how humankind received Him; See Him wrapped in swaddling bands
Who as Lord of all creation rules the wind by His commands
See him lying in a manger without sign of reasoning
Word of God to flesh surrendered He is wisdom’s crown our King
O Lord Jesus, God incarnate, who assumed this humble form
Counsel me and let my wishes to Your perfect will conform
Light of life, dispel my darkness, Let your frailty strengthen me;
Let your meekness give me boldness Let your burden set me free;
O Emmanuel, my Savior, let your death be life for me.
What Child Is This?
Traditional Hymn
What Child is this who laid to rest on Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet while shepherds watch are keeping
Why lies He in such mean estate, where ox and lamb are feed - ing?
Good Christian, fear, for sinners here, the silent Word is pleading
This this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing
Haste haste to sing His praise
The Babe the Son of Mary
So bring Him incense gold and myrrh, come Peasant King to own Him
The King of Kings salvation brings let loving hearts enthrone Him
Raise, raise a song on high, the virgin sings her lul - laby
Joy, joy for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary
Nails spear shall pierce Him through, the cross He'll bear for me for you
Hail hail the Word made flesh, the Babe the Son of Mary
