The resurrection takes place almost inconspicuously. When Mary discovers the empty tomb, she thinks herself to still be living in the old creation, not realizing that she has entered into a space where the old and new overlap. Jesus' resurrection is the release of new life into the old world, and John brings the point home as he narrates the resurrection as though he was narrating a new Genesis.
