Series: Grace Upon Grace
No One Has Ever Seen God
December 20, 2020 | Mike Stancak
Passage: John 1:1-18
What was it that the earliest witnesses of Jesus saw? Miracles? Great teaching? A stunning death and resurrection? All of this is true, but when John sums it all up in his prologue he hones in on one particular word: glory. In Jesus, the earliest Christians bore witness to the very glory of God himself. Delving into what this means will take us all the way back to Moses' encounter with God on the mountain, where YHWH proved himself to be glorious not just because he is God, but because he is abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

The Angels’ Candle - Isaiah 7:10-14
The Portwood Family
The First Noel
Verse 1
The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
In fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep
Chorus
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel
Verse 2
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night
Verse 3
Then let us all in one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
Who made the earth and heaven of naught
And with His own blood mankind hath bought
Joy Has Dawned
Covered by Kings Kaleidoscope
Verse 1
Joy has dawned upon the world
Promised from creation
God's salvation now unfurled
Hope for ev'ry nation
Not with fanfares from above
Not with scenes of glory
But a humble gift of love Jesus born of Mary
Verse 2
Sounds of wonder fill the sky
With the songs of angels
As the mighty Prince of Life
Shelters in a stable
Hands that set each star in place
Shaped the earth in darkness
Held now to a mother's arms
Vulnerable and helpless
Verse 3
Shepherds bow before the Lamb
Gazing at the glory
Gifts of men from distant lands
Prophesy the story
Gold a King is born today
Incense God is with us
Myrrh His death will make a way
By His blood He'll win us
Verse 4
Son of Adam Son of heaven
Given as a ransom
Reconciling God and man
Christ our mighty Champion
What a Savior what a Friend
What a glorious mystery
Once a babe in Bethlehem
Now the Lord of history
SERMON

On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping

Why lies He in such mean estate
Where ox and lamb are feeding?
Good Christian, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading
Chorus
This this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing
Haste haste to sing His praise
The Babe the Son of Mary
Verse 3
So bring Him incense gold and myrrh
Come Peasant King to own Him
The King of Kings salvation brings
Let loving hearts enthrone Him
Verse 4
Raise, raise a song on high
The virgin sings her lullaby
Joy, joy for Christ is born
The Babe, the Son of Mary

LORD’S SUPPER
A Christmas Hallelujah
Verse 1
I've heard about this baby boy
Who's come to earth to bring us joy
And I just want to sing this song to you
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
With every breath we’re singing Hallelujah
Chorus
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Verse 2
A couple came to Bethlehem
Expecting child, they searched the inn
To find a place for You were coming soon
There was no room for them to stay
So in a manger filled with hay
God's only Son was born, oh Hallelujah
Verse 3
The shepherds left their flocks by night
To see this baby wrapped in light
A host of angels led them all to You
It was just as the angels said
You'll find Him in a manger bed
Immanuel and Savior, Hallelujah
Verse 4
A star shown bright up in the east
To Bethlehem, the wisemen three
Came many miles and journeyed long for You
And to the place at which You were
Their frankincense and gold and myrrh
They gave to You and cried out Hallelujah
Verse 5
I know You came to rescue me
This baby boy would grow to be
A man and one day die for me and you
Our sins would drive the nails in You
That rugged cross was our cross, too
Still every breath You drew was Hallelujah
