A New Commandment

Series: The Great Commandment

A New Commandment

February 22, 2026 | Mike Stancak

Passage: John 13:31-35

Judas Iscariot has left the Last Supper with the intent to turn Jesus in. Night has fallen on Christ and his disciples. Jesus tells them that the moment of his glorification has come, which here means that Messiah is about to offer himself up for God’s people. Here Jesus gives the disciples what he calls a new commandment, and yet it is precisely in line with the commands to love God and love neighbor; it is a command to love one another. This is the love shared between members of the body of Christ, a love by which the world will recognize us to be God‘s people.
