As Yourself

Series: The Great Commandment

As Yourself

February 08, 2026 | Mike Stancak

Passage: Lev. 19:1-2

The Scriptures do not set apart holy living as "religious" living, while commands having to do with people are put in a separate category.  Rather, what it means to be holy is for the gift of ourselves to God to overflow into a gift of ourselves to others.  As Christians, we are free from the law only in the sense that its accusing power is neutralized; we are not freed so as to ignore the law.  In Christ, we are in fact being freed to keep the law with renewed creativity, in keeping with the Spirit released to us by the forgiving death of Jesus.
