Who is My Neighbor?

Series: The Great Commandment

Who is My Neighbor?

February 15, 2026 | Mike Stancak

Jesus is approached by a man who understands well that love summarizes the Law...at least he understands in theory.  He asks Jesus to do him the favor of specifying who exactly it is that counts as a neighbor?  In Jesus' reply, he tells the story of a man who is passed over by his ethnic and religious brothers because they think they are choosing God over man, revealing a grave misunderstanding of the Law.  In the end, the man is helped by someone with whom he shares little, a Samaritan.  Jesus flips the question to ask not "what kind of people are we responsible to?" but "what kind of people are we?"
