And Render to God

And Render to God

Passage: Matthew 22:15-22

Political tension has reached a high in our country. Our media convinces us we have to choose between two political options, but oftentimes it feels like fully identifying with either will lead us to compromise on the way of Jesus. In cases like that, it’s easy to simply disengage. Where should our allegiance lie? This Sunday Jesus speaks to the Christian’s responsibility to state and to God, and challenges us on the nature of true worship.

Discussion Questions

  1. What were your impressions from the sermon?
  2. What has shaped your ideas about politics?  Do you think about it often?  Or not so much?  What role has Scripture played in how you engage with politics?
  3. How do we sometimes fail to “render to Caesar?”  “Render to God?”
  4. What are some ways Christians can be distinct in how we engage with political issues?  How can Christians reflect the way of Christ in how they talk about politics?
  5. How can you as a community group “seek the good of the city?”
