The Triumphal Entry

Passage: Matthew 21:1-11

This Sunday we jump back into our Matthew series with one of the most iconic moments in the ministry of Jesus: the Triumphal Entry.  Many of us, regardless of whether we were brought up in the faith, are familiar with the image of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey.  But few of us may be aware of what a controversial and significant thing it was for Jesus to enter the city in that way.  In fact, what Jesus did on that Sunday so long ago is still just as challenging for us today during an age in which few are Christians, but many claim to love Christ.  The Triumphal Entry confronts us with who Jesus really thought he was, and forces us to make a decision about who we think he is.  Join us this Sunday!

Discussion Questions

  1. What were your impressions from the sermon?
  2. Why was the prophecy Matthew quotes significant to the Triumphal Entry?
  3. What did the Triumphal Entry communicate to its onlookers?  What does that say about how Jesus saw himself?
  4. If Jesus is Messiah, how does that change how we live?
  5. What does it mean to live all of life as worship?
  6. It can feel like a daunting thing to live all of life with Jesus as our King, but how is he a different kind of King than any other?  How does grace change the burden of serving of Jesus?
