Bear Thy Name to Glory

Series: The Way

Bear Thy Name to Glory

January 23, 2022 | Everett Meadors

Passage: Deuteronomy 5:6-21

In His revelation to Moses at the burning bush, God reveals His name as, "I Am Who I Am" and promises to be with Moses as the one who is faithful to His promises and delivers the people from slavery. On Mount Sinai He reveals His name to Moses again as "The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." In between these revelations of God's name we receive the word, "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain." Join us on Sunday as we examine what kind of people we become when we treat God's name with reverence and bear it to glory instead of vanity.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 63

King of Love

I Am They

The King of Love my Shepherd is,

whose goodness faileth never

I nothing lack if I am His,

and He is mine forever

And He is mine forever

Where streams of living water flow,

my ransomed soul He leadeth

And where the verdant pastures grow,

with food celestial feedeth

Never failing, Ruler of my heart

Everlasting, Lover of my soul

On the mountain high, or in the valley low

The King of Love my Shepherd is

The King of Love my Shepherd is

Lost and foolish off I strayed,

but yet in love He sought me

And on His shoulder gently laid,

and home rejoicing brought me

In death's dark veil I fear no ill,

with Thee dear Lord beside me

Thy rod and staff my comfort still,

Thy cross before to guide me

Oh Hallelujah Hallelujah

Oh Hallelujah Hallelujah

And so through all the length of days

Thy goodness faileth never

Good Shepherd may I sing Your praise,

Within Your house forever

Within Your house forever

Promises

Maverick City Music

God of Abraham God of covenant

and of faithful promises

Time and time again You have proven

You’ll do just what you said

Though the storms may come and the winds may blow

I’ll remain steadfast

And let my heart learn when you speak a word

It will come to pass

Great is your faithfulness to me

Great is your faithfulness to me

From the rising sun, to the setting same

I will praise your name

Great is your faithfulness to me

God from age to age, though the earth may pass away,

Your word remains the same

Your history can prove there’s nothing You can’t do

You’re faithful and True

I put my faith in Jesus

My anchor to the ground

My hope and firm foundation

He’ll never let me down

He’ll never let me down

What A Friend We Have in Jesus

Traditional Hymn

What a friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and griefs to bear

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer

Oh what peace we often forfeit

Oh what needless pain we bear

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations

Is there trouble anywhere

We should never be discouraged

Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful

Who will all our sorrows share

Jesus knows our every weakness

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me

Cityalight

What gift of grace is Jesus my re - deemer

There is no more for heaven now to give

He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom

My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus

For my life is wholly bound to his

Oh how strange and di - vine, I can sing: all is mine!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark but I am not for - saken

For by my side, the Saviour He will stay

I labour on in weakness and re - joicing

For in my need, His power is dis - played

To this I hold, my Shepherd will de - fend me

Through the deepest valley He will lead

Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am for - given

The future sure, the price it has been paid

For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon

And He was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold, my sin has been de - feated

Jesus now and ever is my plea

Oh the chains are re - leased, I can sing: I am free!

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus

For He has said that He will bring me home

And day by day I know He will re - new me

Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus

All the glory evermore to Him

When the race is com - plete, still my lips shall repeat:

Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Overcame

All authority

Every victory is Yours

All authority

Every victory is Yours

Savior worthy of honor and glory

Worthy of all our praise

For You overcame

Jesus awesome in power forever

Awesome and great is Your Name

For You overcame

Seated above enthroned in the Father's love

Destined to die poured out for all mankind

God's only Son perfect and spotless One

He never sinned but suffered as if He did

Power in hand speaking the Father's plan

You're sending us out light in this broken land

We will overcome

By the blood of the Lamb

And the word of our testimony

Everyone overcome

COMMUNION

In Christ Alone

Keith & Kristyn Getty

In Christ alone my hope is found,

He is my light, my strength, my song;

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace,

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!

My Comforter, my All in All,

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! Who took on flesh

Fulness of God in helpless babe!

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones he came to save:

Till on that cross as Jesus died,

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid;

Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain:

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave he rose again!

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me;

From life's first cry to final breath.

Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand;

Till He returns or calls me home,

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

Worthy Is Your Name

Sean Curran

Rumors of the Son of Man Stories of a Savior

Holiness with human hands Treasure for the traitor

No ear had heard no eye had seen the image of the Father

Until heaven came to live with me

A rescue like no other

You are worthy

You are worthy of Your name!

You are worthy

You are worthy of Your name!

Jesus

You did not speak You made no sound

You died for Your accusers

And as Your blood fell to the ground

You rede - fined my future

On the day that You arose the darkness ran for cover

For the King of kings has claimed His throne

From now until for - ever!

You’re my author, my maker

My ransom my Savior

My refuge my hiding place

You’re my helper my healer my blessed Redeemer

My answer my saving grace

You’re my hope in the shadows

my strength in the battle

My anchor for all my days

And You stand by my side

You stood in my place

Jesus no other name

Only Jesus no other name
