Why Jesus Told Stories

Why Jesus Told Stories

Passage: Matthew 13:10-17

In the next few weeks, we’ll be exploring some of the most famous of all of Jesus’ sayings.  These sayings are famous, in part, because they are stories, and stories have a unique power to pique our interest and ignite our imagination.  Here in Matthew 13 we’ll encounter some of the most memorable parables of Jesus, but before we dive in, it’s important for us to understand the role these stories play in our lives.  Far more than mere sermon illustrations, these stories were used by Jesus to reframe how his listeners saw the world, and to reveal how God saw Jesus’ listeners.  Join us this Sunday!

Series Information

Matthew 12:22 - 20

In the next installment in our Matthew series as we see conflict heating up around Jesus.  As his ministry continues, it becomes clear that the values of the Kingdom clash with the arrogance, pride, and apathy of his day, and people start to polarize around him.  I'm sure the same will be true of us.  At every step we'll find that Jesus' grace is sufficient for the journey, as we learn the way of the Upside-Down Kingdom.
