Friendship

Passage: John 15:12-17
As people made in the image of God, we have been designed for relationality. In fact, we are wired for it. In light of a culture that tends to hold autonomy and independence as virtues to be celebrated, we were not made to keep relationships at an arms-length distance. In fact, relationships worth lasting get scary-close. This Sunday, we will be discovering how our friendship with God enables us to have purpose filled friendships. Jesus has called us His friends, but what does that really mean? How might this central friendship steer the way we invest in friendships? Join us this Sunday as we observe the way the Gospel transforms friendship.
Discussion Questions
- Do you set aside time to daily invest in your friendship with Christ? What are things that keep you from building communion with your friendship with God?
- Do you find it out of your comfort zone to make new friends? If so, why do you think that is?
- Have you considered friendship as a vital part of your spiritual growth, or have you seen it as a separate sphere of life? (i.e, just a social activity, something extra that you have to ‘fit in’ your schedule?)
- Have you ever been tempted to underestimate the God-ordained impact friendships have on us? Does this change how intentional you are in seeking out purpose-filled friendships?
- What do you think are some practical action steps toward becoming more intentional with your non-Christian friends? If you do not have non-Christian friends, what are some ways friendship could become ‘missional’ for you?
Series Information

So often we spend our lives believing the content of the Gospel, but how does it really change the way we work, the way we consume media, the way we prioritize our weekly activities, the way we engage with friendships, or even the way we prepare to age and die? We believe that the Gospel absolutely speaks to all those things. We will be taking topics one by one and demonstrating the real, down-to-earth, practical ways the Gospel shapes our lives.
