Suffering

Passage: Romans 8:18-30
All cultures have sought to answer the question of the ultimate purpose of our lives. And an important part of that question is “what role does suffering play in my life?”. Most people view suffering as an interruption, an obstacle and the ultimate ruin of their lives. But the gospel shows us that we can face suffering patiently, confidently and hopefully, because God is up to something. Come join us and find out what it is this Sunday as we look at Romans 8:18-30.
Discussion Questions
- What were your impressions from the sermon?
- Are you going through suffering now?
- Martin Luther distinguishes between “theologians of glory” (those who understand God and suffering based on our own “common sense”) and “theologians of the cross” (those who understand God and suffering based on His own revelation of Himself through the cross). Through which lens do you normally view God and especially your suffering?
- Why do you think it’s difficult for us to be patient in our suffering?
- What difference does it make to know that God intercedes for you and walks with you in your suffering?
- How has God used suffering in your life to conform you, humble you and teach you?
- What are some practical ways in which God has used others to help you walk patiently, confidently and hopefully in your suffering?
Series Information

So often we spend our lives believing the content of the Gospel, but how does it really change the way we work, the way we consume media, the way we prioritize our weekly activities, the way we engage with friendships, or even the way we prepare to age and die? We believe that the Gospel absolutely speaks to all those things. We will be taking topics one by one and demonstrating the real, down-to-earth, practical ways the Gospel shapes our lives. This is Gospel in Life
