Taking Part Through Lament

Series: Taking Part: A Series on Prayer

Taking Part Through Lament

June 07, 2020 | Mike Stancak

At the end of last week's sermon, the plan was to be talking about rejoicing and praise this week.  But given the escalation of recent events, that no longer seems appropriate.  The slaying of George Floyd has brought to light, once again, the great wound at the heart of our nation.  Protests and peaceful demonstrations have been tarnished by riots and cities burning, all while many Americans take their indignation and grief to social media, where our division comes to light all over again.  America is wounded, and the wound is such that, without the Lord, nothing will change.  We need to put this moment before the Lord and plead with him to change this country, and when God's people do that the word for it is lament.  No matter how we might explain race in America, we all agree that it is the pretense for incredible division and, quite often, gross wrongdoing.  Join us this Sunday as we delve into one of the lesser studied prophets to learn how we might plead with God to heal racial strife in our nation.
