The Reign of God and the Tyranny of our State (No, not that one!)

July 14, 2024 | Steve Bryan

Passage: Deuteronomy 17:14-20

Someone, probably French, once declared that human beings would never be truly free "until the last king was strangled with the entrails of the last priest." But, in Scripture, king and kingship and kingdom play a vital part in the fulfillment of God's purposes for humanity. (And we should spare a thought for priests!) But not any king will do. We may think we need a king to keep us safe from oppressors, but what we really need is a king who save us from our sin.
