Putting our Bibles Together

February 21, 2021 | Mike Stancak

Passage: Hebrews 8:1-13

In a miscalculation that the Spirit will hopefully use to great effect, Mike wrote an enormously long sermon about Hebrews chapter 8.  In an effort to conclude this Sunday's service before the start time of the following service, he decided to preach only the first point of the passage, which means this week is about covenantal theology.
The term may seem alienating, but the concept is simple.  Covenantal theology is about how God relates to people: through relationships called covenants.  He did this in the days of Israel, and now in the days of the Church.  But there is a difference.  The covenant that begins with Christ is able to do what the old covenant could not.  Catching a glimpse of this will change not only how we read our Bibles, but how we live and pass on the faith.

Jeremiah 31

Glorious Day

by Passion

Verse 1

I was buried beneath my shame

Who could carry that kind of weight

It was my tomb 'til I met You

I was breathing but not alive

All my failures I tried to hide

It was my tomb 'til I met You

Chorus

You called my name and I ran out of that grave

Out of the darkness into Your glorious day

You called my name and I ran out of that grave

Out of the darkness into Your glorious day

Verse 3

Now Your mercy has saved my soul

Now Your freedom is all that I know

The old made new Jesus when I met You

Bridge

I needed rescue my sin was heavy

But chains break at the weight of Your glory

I needed shelter I was an orphan

Now You call me a citizen of Heaven

When I was broken You were my healing

Now Your love is the air that I'm breathing

I have a future my eyes are open

Jesus Is Better

By Austin Stone Worship

Verse 1

There is no other so sure and steady

My hope is held in Your hand

When castles crumble and breath is fleeting

Upon this rock I will stand

upon this rock I will stand

Chorus

Glory Glory we have no other King

But Jesus Lord of All

We raise the anthem, our loudest praises ring

We crown Him Lord of All

Verse 2

Your kindly rule has shattered and broken

The curse of sin’s tyranny

My life is hidden 'neath Heaven's shadow

Your crimson flood covers me

Your crimson flood covers me

Bridge

In all my sorrows Jesus is better make my heart believe

In every victory Jesus is better make my heart believe

Than any comfort Jesus is better make my heart believe

More than all riches Jesus is better make my heart believe

Our souls declaring Jesus is better make my heart believe

And our song eternal Jesus is better make my heart believe

SERMON

Lord I Need You

By Matt Maher

Verse 1

Lord I come, I confess

Bowing here, I find my rest

Without You, I fall apart

You're the one that guides my heart

Chorus

Lord, I need You oh I need You

Every hour I need You

My one defense, my righteousness

Oh God, how I need You

Verse 2

Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more

Where grace is found is where You are

And where You are, Lord I am free

Holiness is Christ in me

Bridge

So teach my song to rise to You

When temptation comes my way

And when I cannot stand, I'll fall on You

Jesus, You're my hope and stay

LORD’S SUPPER

Graves into Gardens

By Elevation Worship

Verse 1

I searched the world but it couldn’t fill me

Man’s empty praise and treasures that fade

Are never enough

Then You came along and put me back together

And every desire is now satisfied here in Your love

Chorus

Oh there’s nothing better than You

There’s nothing better than You

Lord there’s nothing, nothing is better than You

Verse 3

I’m not afraid to show You my weakness

My failures and flaws Lord You’ve seen them all

And You still call me friend

‘Cause the God of the mountain Is the God of the valley

There’s not a place Your mercy and grace

Won’t find me again

Bridge (2x)

You turn mourning to dancing

You give beauty for ashes

You turn shame into glory

You’re the only one who can

You turn graves into gardens

You turn bones into armies

You turn seas into highways

You’re the only one who can

You’re the only one who can

Rescuer (Good News)

Oh He's our Rescuer He's our Rescuer

We are free from sin forevermore

Oh how sweet the sound Oh how grace abounds

We will praise the Lord our Rescuer

Verse 1

There is good news for the captive Good news for the shamed

There is good news for the one who walked away

There is good news for the doubter the one religion failed

For the good Lord has come to seek and save

Verse 2

He is beauty for the blind man Riches for the poor

He is friendship for the one the world ignores

He is pasture for the weary Rest for those who strive

Oh the good Lord is the way the truth the life
