To Put Away Sin

March 14, 2021 | Mike Stancak

Passage: Hebrews 9:23-10:18

The author of Hebrews brings to a close his discussion of Christ's priesthood by summarizing much of what has come before.  What the author shares is the content of the Gospel in three images: Christ offering his body, Christ ruling from his throne, and Christ's covenant on our hearts.  Cross, crown, and covenant.  This is the good news that changes how God relates to humanity and it is the good news that will move God's people to endure on his side, come what may.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 9:1-2

CONFESSION

Almighty and most merciful Father,

we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.

We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.

We have offended against your holy laws.

We have left undone those things which we ought to have done,

and we have done those things which we ought not to have done;

and apart from your grace, there is no health in us.

O Lord, have mercy upon us.

Spare all those who confess their faults.

Restore all those who are penitent,

according to your promises declared to all people in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake,

that we may now live a godly, righteous, and sober life,

to the glory of your holy Name.

Amen.

CONFESSION OF FAITH

Romans 5:1-5, 8

1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 8For God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Verse 1

Come set Your rule and reign

In our hearts again

Increase in us we pray

Like wildfire in our very souls

Holy Spirit come invade us now

We are Your church

We need Your pow'r in us

Verse 2

We seek Your kingdom first

We hunger and we thirst

Refuse to waste our lives

For You're our joy and prize

To see the captives' hearts released

The hurt the sick the poor at peace

We lay down our lives for heaven's cause

We are Your church

We pray revive this earth

Chorus

Build Your kingdom here

Let the darkness fear

Show Your mighty hand

Heal our streets and land

Set Your church on fire

Win this nation back

Change the atmosphere

Build Your kingdom here we pray

Verse 3

Unleash Your kingdom's pow'r

Reaching the near and far

No force of hell can stop

Your beauty changing hearts

You made us for much more than this

Awake the kingdom seed in us

Fill us with the strength and love of Christ

We are Your church

We pray revive this earth

Be Thou My Vision

Traditional Hymn

Verse 1

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art

Thou my best thought, by day or by night

Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light

Verse 2

Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word;

I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son;

Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Verse 3

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always:

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High king of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Chorus

O God be my everything, be my delight

Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied

Verse 4

High king of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

SERMON

Great Is Our God

By Young Oceans

Verse 1

Come let us praise Him

Let us kneel at the throne of our God

Through His Son our salvation was bought

With mercy and grace.

Come let us bow down

In His hands are the depths of the earth

With one voice we proclaim His great worth

Lord our God

Chorus

And we will seek Him our Rock of Salvation

Morning by morning with Thanksgiving we come

And we will bow down with creation we cry out

In daylight and darkness we sing to the Lord

Great is our God

Great is our God

Great is our God.

Verse 2

Lord of all nations We will stand at the end of our days

In your courts and declare your great ways In Spirit and Truth

We long for your kingdom Bring your thunder and gather the earth

All who tremble will tell of Your worth Lord our God

LORD’S SUPPER

Lord I Need You

Matt Maher

Verse 1

Lord I come, I confess

Bowing here, I find my rest

Without you, I fall apart

You’re the one who guides my heart

Chorus

Lord, I need You, oh I need You

Every hour I need You

My one defense, my righteousness

Oh God, how I need You

Verse 2

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more

Where grace is found is where You are

And where You are, Lord I am free

Holiness is Christ in me

And where You are, Lord I am free

Holiness is Christ in me

Bridge:

So teach my song to rise to You

When temptation comes my way

And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You

Jesus You're my hope and stay

Jesus Is Better

By Austin Stone Worship

Verse

There is no other so sure and steady

My hope is held in Your hand

When castles crumble and breath is fleeting

Upon this rock I will stand

upon this rock I will stand

Chorus

Glory Glory we have no other King

But Jesus Lord of All

We raise the anthem, our loudest praises ring

We crown Him Lord of All

Verse 2

Your kindly rule has shattered and broken

The curse of sin’s tyranny

My life is hidden 'neath Heaven's shadow

Your crimson flood covers me

Your crimson flood covers me

Bridge

In all my sorrows Jesus is better make my heart believe

In every victory Jesus is better make my heart believe

Than any comfort Jesus is better make my heart believe

More than all riches Jesus is better make my heart believe

Our souls declaring Jesus is better make my heart believe

And our song eternal Jesus is better make my heart believe
