The God Who Gives Life Through His Word

October 04, 2020 | Mike Stancak

Passage: Exodus 16:1-5

What follows the salvation of Israel ends up not being immediate comfort and peace, but wilderness instead.  The people of God, for the time being, are a wilderness people.  During our journey to the New Heavens and New Earth, we are met with countless temptations to despair, to grow apathetic, to become cynical.  We forget that God is the one who comes to give us life.  Again and again, we must return to the Lord, to be renewed by the Word made flesh.

WELCOME

CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 95:6-9

Leader: Lift up your hearts

Congregation: Our hearts are lifted up to the Lord

CONFESSION

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name.

Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS IN CHRIST

Firm Foundation
Bryon Brown | Tony Wood

Verse 1

How firm a foundation you saints of the Lord

Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word

What more can He say than to you He has said

To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled

Verse 2

Fear not He is with us O be not dismayed

For He is our God our Sustainer and Strength

He'll be our Defender and cause us to stand

Upheld by His merciful almighty hand

Chorus

How firm our foundation

How sure our salvation

And we will not be shaken

Jesus firm foundation

Verse 3

The soul that is trusting in Jesus as Lord

Will press on enduring the darkest of storm

And though even hell should endeavor to shake

He'll never no never no never forsake

He'll never no never no never forsake

Bridge

Age to age He stands faithful to the end

All may fade away but He will remain

He will remain

Jesus Paid It All
Traditional Hymn (1865)

Verse 1

I hear the Savior say, thy strength indeed is small

Child of weakness, watch and pray, find in me thine all in all

Verse 2

Lord, now indeed I find thy power and thine alone

Can change the leper's spots and melt the heart of stone

Chorus

Jesus paid it all

All to Him I owe

Sin had left a crimson stain

He washed it white as snow

Verse 3

And when before the throne I stand in him complete

Jesus died my soul to save my lips shall still repeat

Bridge

O praise the one who paid my debt

And raised this life up from the dead

O praise the one who paid my debt

And raised this life up from the dead

LORD’S SUPPER

I Will Follow

Verse 1

When the sea is calm and all is right

When I feel Your favor flood my life

Even in the good, I'll follow You

Even in the good, I'll follow You

When the boat is tossed upon the waves

When I wonder if You'll keep me safe

Even in the storms, I'll follow You

Even in the storms, I'll follow You

Chorus

I believe everything that You say You are

I believe and I have seen Your unchanging heart

In the good things and in the hardest part

I believe and I will follow You

I believe and I will follow You

Verse 2

When I see the wicked prospering

When I feel I have no voice to sing

Even in the want, I'll follow You

Even in the want, I'll follow You

Verse 3

When I find myself so far from home

And You lead me somewhere that I don't wanna go

Even in my death, I'll follow You

Even in my death, I'll follow You

And I receive the prize that Christ has won

I will be with You in Paradise

I will be with You in Paradise
