The God Who Is Judge

Series: Exodus: The God Who Is

The God Who Is Judge

November 22, 2020 | Mike Stancak

Passage: Exodus 32:1-14

No sooner does God bring together a people then they prove unfit to live up to their calling.  Israel rejects the God on the mountain in favor of a God on their level, seated on top of a golden calf.  They exchange God as he is for God as they would have him, and the leadership in Israel enables it all.  The golden calf incident is like a second fall, a second time in which God's people broke their special relationship to him.  And though God remains just, he also remains gracious, forgiving again and again.  In the forgiveness of Sinai we get a glimpse of the forgiveness of the Cross.

CONFESSION

Christ the King by Malcolm Guite

CONFESSION OF FAITH (The Philippians Hymn)

Leader: All praise to Christ the King

Congregation:

who, though he was in the form of God,
did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a servant,
being born in the likeness of men.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to the point of death,
even death on a cross.
Therefore God has highly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth,
and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Where the Spirit of the Lord Is

For we know the truth

Your truth has set us free

In Your Name alone

We have been released

Freedom is our hope

Never looking back

Jesus You are Lord

We give all to You

We give all to You

there is freedom

Where the Spirit of the Lord is

Chains are broken eyes are open

Christ is with us

Christ is with us

Verse 3

Who the Son has freed

He is free indeed

All our sin is gone

We have been redeemed

Jesus paid it all

Jesus paid it all

Bridge

Open wide the gates of heaven

Fill our hearts as we surrender

Lord let Your presence fall

Lord let Your presence fall

Open wide the gates of heaven

We will worship You forever

Lord let Your presence fall

Lord let Your presence fall

This Is Our God
By Reuben Morgan

I will fall at Your feet

I will fall at Your feet

And I will worship You here

Verse 1

Your grace is enough,  More than I need

At Your word I will believe

I wait for You,  Draw near again

Let Your Spirit make me new

I will fall at Your feet

I will fall at Your feet

And I will worship You here

Verse 2

Your presence in me, Jesus light the way

By the power of Your word

I am restored,  I am redeemed

By Your Spirit I am free

Bridge

Freely You gave it all for us

Surrendered Your life upon that cross

Great is the love     Poured out for all

This is our God

Lifted on high from death to life

Forever our God is glorified

Servant and King   Rescued the world

This is our God

Your Name is Matchness

By Colin Edge and Neil Degraide

Verse 1

We were sinners we were orphans   we were looking for a home

We were lost and  we   were broken  wandering alone

Looking down at our condition you sent Your Son to change our fate

Though we were hopelessly im - prisoned He came to take our place

     Chorus 1

Glory to the name of Jesus

Glory to the only name that saves

Ransomed the captives Your name is matchless

Verse 2

What a mystery to fathom   that we're Your children set apart

For we were enemies not pilgrims prodigals at heart

But Your Spirit now has caused us to no longer doubt Your love

Abba Father You have bought us adopted through Your Son

     Chorus 2

Glory to the name of Jesus Glory to the only name that saves

Ransomed the captives Your name is matchless

Glory to the name that freed us Glory to the love that made a way

Beauty for ashes Your name is matchless

A sting-less death has been made certain

And glory now awaits Your glory now awaits
