Series: Exodus: The God Who Is
The God Who Is Present in His Word
October 11, 2020 | Steve Bryan
Passage: Exodus 19:1-8
One of the most difficult questions to answer in life is the question, "What is life?" Before we can know what life means, we need to know what it is and where it comes from. This proved to be one of the greatest struggles for Israel after the Exodus from Egypt. The same is true for us. Will we trust God as the one who is life, who gives life, who holds the life he gives us in his hands. When God tests us, do we respond by testing him or trusting him? God tests his people to deepen their understanding and trust of him. We may say we believe, but do we trust him as the one whose life-giving presence is in his word?

CALL TO WORSHIP
1 Peter 1:3-5
Leader: Lift up your hearts
Congregation: Our hearts are lifted up to the Lord
CONFESSION
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name.
Amen.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS IN CHRIST
1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10
CONFESSION OF FAITH (Apostle’s Creed)
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Come To The Feast
(Communion Song)
by Jeff Lawson
Verse 1
Go to the highways and hedges
Go to the farthest of fields
Go and compel, the sick and the well
For our Father’s house will be filled.
Verse 2
Go to the streets of the city
Bring in the crippled and blind
All who would taste this banquet of grace
Must come and waste no more time.
Chorus
Come to the feast, come to the table
The great and the least, the rich and the poor.
Come to the feast, come to the table.
Come and hunger no more
Verse 3:
In the robe of the lamb you’ll be covered
dressed in his pure righteousness
For all of your guilt, his blood it was spilt
So come by your Father be blessed.
Be Thou My Vision

Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
Verse 2
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Verse 3
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High king of heaven, my treasure Thou art.
Chorus
O God be my everything, be my delight
Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied
Verse 4
High king of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's sun!

Still be my vision, O ruler of all.
Still be my vision, O ruler of all.
