The God Who Saves

Series: Exodus: The God Who Is

The God Who Saves

September 20, 2020 | Mike Stancak

Passage: Exodus 11:1-10

At the center of the Christian faith is God's work of salvation.  Spirituality, at the end of the day, is not about God responding to us, but us responding to God, specifically in what he has done in salvation.  In the Exodus, God saved his children Israel to be his household and to serve his kingdom.  In Christ, the mission is fulfilled.  And our duty is to align ourselves with the truth of what has happened, to live knowing that Jesus is king and God will dwell with us.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Colossians 1:15-20

Leader: Lift up your hearts

Congregation: Our hearts are lifted up to the Lord

CONFESSION

Almighty God,

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker and judge of us all:

We acknowledge and lament our many sins and offenses,

which we have committed by thought, word, and deed

against your divine majesty,

provoking most justly your righteous anger against us.

We are deeply sorry for these our transgressions;

the burden of them is more than we can bear.

Have mercy upon us,

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;

for your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,

forgive us all that is past;

and grant that we may evermore serve and please you

in newness of life,

to the honor and glory of your Name;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS IN CHRIST

Colossians 1:12-14

CONFESSION OF FAITH (NICENE CREED)

We believe in one God,

   the Father almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth,

   of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,

   the only Son of God,

   begotten from the Father before all ages,

        God from God,

        Light from Light,

        true God from true God,

   begotten, not made;

   of the same essence as the Father.

   Through him all things were made.

   For us and for our salvation

        he came down from heaven;

        he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,

        and was made human.

        He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;

        he suffered and was buried.

        The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.

        He ascended to heaven

        and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

        He will come again with glory

        to judge the living and the dead.

        His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit,

   the Lord, the giver of life.

   He proceeds from the Father and the Son,

   and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.

   He spoke through the prophets.

   We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

   We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

   We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,

   and to life in the world to come. Amen.

God Is For Us
by CityAlight

Verse 1

We won't fear the battle, we won't fear the night

We will walk the valley with You by our side

You will go before us, You will lead the way

We have found a refuge, only You can save

Chorus

Sing with joy now: our God is for us

The Father's love is a strong and mighty fortress

Raise your voice now, no love is greater

Who can stand against us if our God is for us

Verse 2

Even when I stumble, even when I fall

Even when I turn back, still Your love is sure

You will not abandon, You will not forsake

You will cheer me onward with never-ending grace

Bridge

Neither height nor depth can separate us Hell and death will not defeat us

He who gave His son to free us holds me in His love

Neither height nor depth can separate us Hell and death will not defeat us

He who gave His son to free us holds me in His love

There is still one king reigning over all

So I will not fear for this truth remains:

That my God is the Ancient of Days

All of time in his hands

For His throne it shall remain and ever stand

All the power All the glory

I will trust in His name

For my God is the Ancient of days

Verse 2

Though the dread of night Overwhelms my soul

He is here with me I am not alone

O his love is sure and he knows my name

For my God is the Ancient of Days

Though I may not see What the future brings

I will watch and wait for the Saviour king

Then my joy complete standing face to face

Living Hope
by Phil Wickham

Verse 1

How great the chasm that lay between us

How high the mountain I could not climb

In desperation I turned to heaven

And spoke Your name into the night

Then through the darkness Your loving-kindness

Tore through the shadows of my soul

The work is finished the end is written

Jesus Christ my living hope

Verse 2

Who could imagine so great a mercy

What heart could fathom such boundless grace

The God of ages stepped down from glory

To wear my sin and bear my shame

The cross has spoken I am forgiven

The King of kings calls me His own

Beautiful Savior I’m Yours forever

Jesus Christ my living hope

Chorus 1

Hallelujah praise the One who set me free

Hallelujah death has lost its grip on me

You have broken every chain There’s salvation in Your name

Jesus Christ my living hope

Verse 3

Then came the morning that sealed the promise

Your buried body began to breathe

Out of the silence the Roaring Lion

Declared the grave has no claim on me

Jesus Yours is the victory

DOXOLOGY

Praise God from whom all blessings flow

Praise Him all creatures here below

Praise him above ye heavenly hosts

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
