Pergamum: The Endangered Church

Pergamum is a church at risk.  Situated in a city that Jesus refers to as the place of Satan's throne, they are beset by persecution.  One of their members, whom Jesus refers to as his faithful witness, falls as a Christian martyr.  But they are not just endangered physically.  Were that the only issue, the Church would be unstoppable; but some in their midst are placing before them another danger, the danger of temptation.  They must cling for direction and comfort to that very sword which will be their judge if they fail: the sword of God's Word.
