The Conquering-Conquered People of the Conquering-Conquered King

Passage: The Revelation to John Revelation 7:1-17

In Revelation 5, we met a paradoxical figure – a conquering Lion who is also a slain Lamb. In Revelation 7, we meet a paradoxical people – a conquering army that is also a slaughtered multitude. The two part-vision that describes this people interrupts the series of seven seals and tell us something important. If the breaking of the seals unleash the wrath of the lamb —wrath that seemingly no one can survive — John briefly interrupts his regularly scheduled programming for a special announcement: those who survive the seals are those sealed by the Lion-Lamb. They may not be safe in this world but they are saved from his wrath.
